As the image on the Maine state quarter, Pemaquid Point Light is a well-known lighthouse in Maine. Here are various images of how artists create masterpieces from very unique perspectives.

Brian Kliewer is featuring a series of 100 paintings for $100. This painting of Pemaquid Point Light is still available for only $100. I am the proud owner of four of his inspiring paintings!

Quick Trip to Portland, Maine

It was a beautiful weekend in Portland, Maine. On Saturday we stopped at The Standard Baking Company to pick up some croissants and then headed to East End Beach. Then we proceeded to Angela Adams, L.L.Bean, Aurora Provisions, Papier Gourmet, Judy Pascal, Agatha & Louise and several other charming shops. My favorite store in Portland is Folly 101; it's very shabby chic. On Sunday we began the day with breakfast at Becky's Diner and then shopped some more. Before heading to dinner at Street & Co. we picked up some sweet treats from Two Fat Cats Bakery and some souvenirs from Shipyard Brewing Company. On Monday our flight was delayed so we headed out to the Portland Head Light.

Planning a Wedding in Maine: Camden

If you are planning that dream wedding in Maine and are feeling a little overwhelmed by the whole process I have a few suggestions that might make your search a little easier. I am always eager to lend a hand when it comes to giving design suggestions.

Camden is a picture-perfect coastal town . . . the kind of place that everyone dreams of when they think of Maine.

The Camden Public Library has a beautiful amphitheatre that could provide the perfect setting for your wedding at a very reasonable price.

The Hartstone Inn is my top choice for accommodations in Camden. With its beautifully decorated rooms, it is sure to please. They also have a cottage which is located across the street from the Camden Public Library. The cottage can be rented by the week.

If you're looking for the perfect music for your wedding you might want to consider contacting Ellen Tipper, a very gifted singer and songwriter from Maine. She creates original songs about couples that embrace who they are. She is also willing to perform live. CDs can serve as wedding favors for guests. Besides creating music for weddings, Ellen Tipper also has a few CDs of her own. She is amazing!

For creative wedding favors I suggest combining chocolates from Black Dinah Chocolatiers, crafted on a remote Maine island, with Postcards of Maine lighthouses from Alan Claude, a talented graphic artist.

I have always been intrigued by architecture. This house happens to be one of my MANY dream houses. It is located at 31 Belmeade Road in Portland, Maine. John Calvin Stevens, a well-known Maine architect designed it in the 1920s.

This home was also featured in the December 2008 issue of Portland Magazine. According to the article, the shingle style home was built in 1923 for Frank G. Leavitt, the treasurer of Carter Bros. Jewelers.

One of the best places, in my opinion, to see the beautiful foliage in Maine is the Camden Hills State Park. Looking down on Camden, the view is spectacular. Camden truly lives up to the phrase, "Where the mountains meet the sea"!

Rockland

Rockland is one of my favorite places in Maine. The traditional architecture, art galleries, museums, shops, and restaurants are what attract me to this lovely town.

Some of my favorites include the Atlantic Baking Co., the Farnsworth Art Museum, Dowling Walsh Gallery, G.F. MacGregor, and Rockland Breakwater lighthouse.

I love walking across the breakwater to take in the cool fresh air and see the gulls flying above. This time we were lucky enough to see several seals basking in the sun.

After a late night at L.L.Bean we woke up a little late and headed to Reid State Park, a beautiful place to enjoy the peace and quiet of coastal Maine. Reid State Park is located near Bath, a charming Maine town. A lovely place to stop at along the way is Five Islands Farm, a garden and gourmet market with pumpkins, apples, and more.

A wonderful day in Maine

The minute I stepped off the plane I felt at home. We knew exactly where we were going first, the Portland Head Light. It was a gorgeous day to linger and relax beside the ocean. Later that day, we stopped in Ogunquit to get some delicious chocolates at the Harbor Candy Shop and visit some of the shops. I especially enjoyed seeing some of the many beautiful offerings at Abacus Gallery. On our way back up to Brunswick, we ate dinner in Kennebunkport. Unfortunately, it was too late to stop at one of my favorite shops, Beach Grass.

This is a photograph of the Belties (Belted Galloway Cows) at Aldermere Farm in Rockport. I'm looking forward to seeing them again next weekend! I'm so excited about this trip, but it will go by too fast since we'll only be there for 3 days. I can't wait to see all of my favorite lighthouses, enjoy some delicious food, and really experience THE WAY LIFE SHOULD BE.

Nicola's homes truly evoke my vision of the Maine lifestyle. I could spend all day staring at the gorgeous photographs of the masterpieces she has created. Although it seems as if we have a lot in common when it comes to building a dream house, there is one thing that I would change . . . and . . . that is the size. I prefer cozy and intimate spaces and I enjoy overcoming the challenges of making a small space work. I also enjoy the simplicity and practicality of a small space. I hope to live in a house in MAINE as beautiful as this one someday! Dream on!

Acadia National Park

With very little time to spend in Acadia National Park, we immediately headed for Bass Harbor Light since we're fanatics of lighthouses. Before we visited the lighthouse we stopped in Bar Harbor for a snack at Rupununi, which was recommended by someone at Bar Harbor Brewing Co. while my mom was picking up some Harbor Lighthouse Ale. At Rupununi we feasted on a lobster cocktail and nachos!

Freeport

Home to L.L.Bean, Freeport is one of my favorite places in Maine. We stayed at the Harraseeket Inn, but I look forward to staying in their Thos. Moser room on our next trip. A trip to Freeport is not complete without a meatball sub from Derosier's!

Goat Island Light

Goat Island Light is located in Cape Porpoise, near Kennebunkport. We were only able to see it from a distance, but it's definitely an area worth visiting. We stopped at Alisson's for lunch . . . lobster rolls and clam chowder! My favorite shop in Kennebunkport is Daytrip Society; I was happy to find a T-shirt with Goat Island on it! Then we stopped at Goose Rocks Beach to let Becky enjoy the sand between her toes (paws)!

Pemaquid Point

Pemaquid Point is an amazing place to visit. The lighthouse is beautiful and so are the surroundings. We had a late dinner at the Damariscotta River Grill; it is the perfect place for a good meal. I highly recommend the Maine Shrimp Bruschetta. Another thing that you don't want to miss while visiting this area is a trip out on the Hardy Boat. We took a puffin cruise and it was wonderful. The puffins are amazing little creatures and the scenery was incredible.

Castine

A visit to Castine, Maine is not complete without a stop at Dyce Head, the lighthouse pictured above. Beyond the lighthouse is a path to spectacular views of the ocean. Castine is a quaint little town with very little dining or shopping options, but it's definitely worth the trip! Home to the Maine Maritime Academy, Castine is the picture-perfect Maine town.

Hartstone Inn

One of the highlights of my trip to Maine was a stay at the beautiful Hartstone Inn in Camden. We decided to stay in the French Thyme room in their Hideaway building. The room felt like a condominium; as you step on to the porch you feel at home. A tiny entry welcomes you in to the gorgeous room with a sweet sitting area, luxurious bathroom, and simple bedroom. Our dog, Becky, also enjoyed the Hartstone Inn! The Hideaway is in a perfect location, only steps from the heart of Camden.
